    wave expression

I have been attending Plymouth College of Art and Design and the Wave Expressions have been one of the new pieces made during the course.

I grew up in St. Ives,  a place where swimming as a child was so easy and  part of life.

During the summer months, a choice of beaches gave a  child the  constant experience of being in the water, whether it was the sense of semi tropical colour of Porthminster beach  or Atlantic swell of Porthmeor beach.

Last year, I ventured back into the water at Whitsand Bay, aided with a wetsuit.

These lastest pieces try to convey and capture the Cornishness of swimming in the  sea with the  special colour and shape of the waves. Even though I am swimming in a different part of Cornwall, it feels that I am connecting with those childhood memories.

I raku glazed  the clay and the colours look almost subtropical blue.

I really enjoyed the effect of these new pieces, especially their simplicity.

I wrote on the pieces as well and the Raku effect worked very well with the lettering.
